The World Kidney Day is being celebrated around the globe by organizing different programs on Thursday. The Day is being marked with an aim to raise awareness about ways to prevent kidney-related diseases. A kidney walk was organized in the Capital City today led by Minister for Heath Gagan Thapa to mark the Day.
Although there are no clear data, it is estimated that some 2.5 million people are infected with kidney-related ailments in Nepal. The number of people living with kidney-related ailments is increasing as the symptoms are seen very late. According to doctors, smoking, unhealthy lifestyle and drinking are the major causes for kidney ailments.
Speaking at the rally, Minister Thapa said that public awareness plays a significant role to control kidney-related ailments.
